Adam Silver: Seattle has good shot when NBA expands

Seattle was once a proud NBA franchise for nearly 40 years before it moved to Oklahoma City.

The Supersonics won an NBA championship in 1979 and went to two more NBA Finals in 1978 and 1996. Great players like Gary Payton, Jack Sikma, Ray Allen and many more played for the Sonics.

Allen and several other players have been trying to get a team back to Seattle in recent years and Adam Silver gave them hope in an interview with The Players Tribune and C.J. McCollum.

He continued, “the Cleveland Cavaliers have given him everything he’s wanted. They have the highest payroll in NBA history. He wanted J.R. Smith last summer, they paid him. They brought in Kyle Korver. He’s the best player in the world. Does he want all the best players? Does he want to compete?”

LeBron fired back. “He’s a hater,” he said to ESPN’s Dave McMenamin. “What makes what he says credible? Because he’s on TV?”

So J.R. gave us his thoughts on the feud and some well-needed extra nuggets to make the internet a fun place again.

A quick, but significant complication: Verlander has complete veto power over any trade, as a player with 10 years of MLB service, including five with his current team. He’d have to approve any deal, which seems likely to happen because it’s doubtful the highly competitive Verlander wants to pitch through the rebuild that is coming soon to Detroit. To agree to wave that veto power, though, he could make demands — such as forcing the other team to guarantee that 2020 option, for example — to allow the trade to go through.

And then there’s this issue: Verlander hasn’t been nearly as good this year as he was in 2016, when he finished a very close second in the AL Cy Young Cheap Jerseys NFL Wholesale race. It’s not just his ERA that has jumped in the wrong way — from 3.04 to 4.50 — but Cheap Jerseys NCAA Basketball the peripherals, too: K/9 (from 10.0 to 8.7), BB/9 (from 2.3 to 4.1), H/9 (6.8 to 8.9), WHIP (1.00 to 1.44) and FIP (3.48 to 4.21).
