Knicks coach Jeff Hornacek’s job safe, report says, but for how long?

Knicks coach Jeff Hornacek’s job is safe, despite the team’s record (27-41) and team president Phil Jackson’s growing hands-on input, the New York Post reported Thursday, citing an unidentified NBA source.

It’s unclear whether Jackson, who has pushed Hornacek to reemphasize the triangle offense, merely is hesitant to fire the fourth coach in his three years in charge or he sees reason for optimism primarily because of Hornacek’s willingness to communicate with the team president.

If Love returns during the cross-country trek, which begins Saturday in Los Angeles and runs through March 24, it would be five weeks since he went under the knife.

Cavaliers coach Tyronn Lue said Love would practice Wednesday depending on how he felt following the scrimmage. Either way, the star’s return is imminent.

Not a moment too soon for the defending NBA champions, who are 6-6 with Love out of the lineup the past few weeks. It’s been even worse of late as the Cavs dropped four of five entering Tuesday and are quickly ceding ground to the Celtics and Wizards for the Eastern Conference’s top seed.

Love is in the midst of his best season in Cleveland, averaging 20 points and 11.1 rebounds.

The Cavs have been bitten hard by the injury bug recently. Kevin Love’s knee injury last month put much more offensive weight on James’ and Irving’s shoulders. Andrew Bogut broke his leg minutes into his debut in Cleveland. Iman Shumpert NBA Jerseys Wholesale missed Monday’s game with a knee injury. Korver has been shut down for the week with a left foot issue. James has gotten scratched in the eye and New York Giants Cheap Jerseys elbowed in the back in the past week, and he’s still second in the league in minutes per game (37.5).
